5S is a methodology for organizing workplaces so that
work can be done efficiently, effectively, and safely. This system focuses on
putting everything where it belongs and keeping the workplace clean, which
makes it easier for people to do their jobs without wasting time or risking
injury.
5S is a
workplace organization method that contains a list of five Japanese words
i.e. Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu,
and Shitsuke.
5S means, “a place for everything and everything in its place"
.Implementing 5S raises product quality and improves work productivity,
resulting in lower costs and higher efficiencies.
It doesn't need any technical analysis and can be implemented in all
types of companies, ranging from manufacturing plants to offices, small
businesses to large multinational organizations and in both private and public
sectors.
History
of 5S
5S was
developed in Japan by Japanese inventor Taiichi Ohno in early 1980’s. He was Toyota engineer who is also known
as the Father of 5S. And also known as the father of Japanese industrial
revolution. Earlier it was used by Toyota Production system, later it was
adopted by many organizations globally.
